In an immersive opening ceremony, the structure work was ceremonially opened on September 17th with around 200 invited guests. Government Councillor Susanne Hartmann, the St. Gallen Building Department under the leadership of Ruedi Vögeli, various representatives of the authorities, politics and construction companies experienced the spectacular urban celebration.
Gögi, the comedian, led the guests through different tunnel worlds and told exciting stories about this incredible construction project. On the way, the guests met construction workers at dizzying heights, felt dark and light phases of the tunnel and experienced how sounds echo, vibrate and glow in a tunnel.
Spectacular and surprising was the performance with 10 artists who played on the ceiling and inspired in an air number never seen before. The official opening was celebrated with a final blast. Afterwards the guests enjoyed the culinary delights of the “Food Festival” and enjoyed the afternoon in a relaxed atmosphere.
